Property Locations in Dublin Dublin
lies on the east coast of Ireland, with Greater Dublin sprawling
around the arc of Dublin Bay, bounded to the north by the Howth hills and
to the south by the Dalkey headland. The city is split by the River
Liffey and the two canals, the Grand Canal in the south and the Royal Canal
in the north, form semi-circular arcs around the city centre.
Immediately
south of the River Liffey is the hotspot of Dublin, Temple Bar, where you'll
find a concentration of pubs, restaurants, shops and Dublin art galleries. Nearby
is Grafton Street, the city's most exclusive shopping street. Magnificent
public buildings such as Trinity College, Leinster House, and the Bank of Ireland
at College Green, are all located in the heart of Dublin City. The country's
most richly decorated manuscript, "The Book of Kells" is on view in
Trinity College, one of the city's renowned universities. The National Museum,
which has superb displays of Irish treasures, is located on Kildare Street
and the National Gallery of Ireland is located on Merrion Square, a Georgian
square that overlooks the pretty Fitzwilliam Park. Other tourist attractions
include Dublin Castle, Christ Church Cathedral, the General Post Office and Kilmainham
Gaol, all of which feature strongly throughout Ireland's turbulent history. Dublin
comes alive at night. The city has one of the best pub and club scenes in Europe.
Pubs range from trendy modern cafe bars to older distinguished pubs with sumptuous
Edwardian or Victorian interiors. Night time entertainment is a rich mix of international
dining, word class theatre, rock concerts, jazz clubs and Irish traditional music
pub sessions. On the south side, Ballsbridge, Sandymount and
Donnybrook are the areas of choice for resident diplomats, government ministers
and leaders in the commercial and cultural community. Some of the best examples
of Georgian Dublin architecture with its stately homes and elegant parks are evident
in these areas. Ireland prides itself on having an excellent education system
and primary and secondary schools achieve very high academic standards. The main
universities located in Dublin are Trinity College Dublin located in Dublin City
Centre, University College Dublin located in Donnybrook and Dublin City
University located in Glasnevin, all of which offer a wide range of graduate
and postgraduate courses. Dublin city has the advantage of having surprisingly
rural and picturesque suburbs. Coastal towns like Howth and Killiney
and Dalkey, with beautiful walking areas, delightful restaurants and exclusive
boutiques, allow the visitor to get away from it all without venturing far from
the city. Clontarf and Sandymount are residential areas only minutes
from the city on the suburban light railway - the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART)
- both of which offer sea-front promenades.
